CARRETTA IS TURKISH FOR TURTLE

For us the Carretta and its’ crew was such a lucky find, chosen from the Calis beach web site. We have been visiting turkey for something like 24 years and have always loved the country and its’ people, known for their friendly and generous ways, this in a nutshell sums up Can (Doctor John as many of the English call him), Mary & Cem.

The hotel is very much family run, the feeling you get, when you stay at the Carretta is more like you are a guest in their home rather than a hotel guest. Can in particular goes that extra mile to ensure you have an enjoyable time, will arrange all sorts of trips and days out, so that you make the best of your time there, I think it quite significant that many of the people you meet in bar have been going back year after year, even those who, now have their own apartments in Calis still call in almost daily for a drink and a chat.

The rooms are all very comfortable, light and airy, complete with a fridge and cooking facilities, great for breakfast, although I am fairly certain, once you have tried the meals cooked by Can and Mary’s excellent chef (his kofta is second to none) you are unlikely to cook your main meal in the room.

There is a nice pool area with sun beds set in amongst the mandarin and jacaranda trees, just short distance from the bar area. It is within this area you find the adorable and now famous Cookie, who will find the ball as long as you have strength in your arm to throw it, you will tire long before he does, you will often see guests taking him for a walk. For all his playful ways he obedient , great with the children and speaks excellent English.

According to Can he taught cookie English in a shorter time, than he can teach us to speak Turkish, Can has a very dry sense of humour.

The Carretta location is excellent. Only a few minutes walk from Calis Beach centre, where you find Bars & restaurants. You could walk outside the gates and pick up a dolmas into Fethiye and then onto Olu Deniz.

To summarize the Carretta, is comfortable and clean with a warm and friendly atmosphere, where you will feel very much at home very quickly, we as a family look forward very much to visiting Can, Mary and their team later this year.

After having a wonderful holiday at the 'Caretta' what can be said. Well you get what you expected when you booked and a lot more. To start with booking is easy, Dr.John confirms dates arranges pick up at airport, so just turn up on time and leave the rest to them.

They make you feel welcome from the offset but it goes further than that. They seem ready to run people here and there at the drop of a hat, do trips take you into Fethiye each week for the market. Then if you are not doing anything in particular you could find yourself at home cleaning the Jacuzzi or carrying gas bottles to rooms that have run out of, as we did one evening and after being chastised for using to much Dr.John phoned another guest to bring their gas bottle and fit it in our room, of course they duly did ! You may find your self opening wine bottles as Dr. John likes to pass on the work when ever possible. Needless to say we have decided to return again next year ,twice in fact, early and late season.

Very well forget what we have just said. The hotel offers a wonderful standard of cleanliness, politeness, northing is too much trouble for any of the staff, the rooms are spacious smart and modern. The location is perfect just outside of the main tourist spots but only five minutes from the beach and ten minutes from the centre and promenade. The restaurant provides excellent meals and the bar stays open until you are ready for bed. There are ample sunbeds around the pool and snacks are available all day. Perfect in fact plus Dr.John's has a wonderful sense of Humour and at times we believed he was indeed John Clease, hence all the fun and laughs that we promise you when you take the plunge and visit and be ready to play the 'Okay' game and drink their new found cocktail 'The Blue Lagoon'.
